WANTED SA has just learned this morning that the Police raided the bank of Russian media tycoon Lebedev. Russian banking and media tycoon Alexander Lebedev was being held Tuesday inside the Moscow headquarters of a bank he owns while masked police rifled through company files, his spokesman and police said.

Up to 30 armed Moscow city policemen surrounded Lebedev's National Reserve Bank and then entered the premises, apparently searching for certain documents, Levedev's spokesman Artyom Artyomov told The Associated Press.

"They are from the city police. They are armed with guns and have masks. We don't know what they want. Lebedev is still inside," Artyomov said.

City police spokesman Viktor Biryukov confirmed to The AP that a raid was underway "in the framework of an ongoing criminal investigation." He would not elaborate.

Lebedev recently acquired Britain's Independent newspaper, owns the London Evening Standard, has a stake in Russia's Novaya Gazeta newspaper and is part-owner of national carrier Aeroflot.

Raiding company property and seizing computers and documents is common practice among Russia's law-enforcement agencies when there are suspicions of criminal activities.

The Russian oligarch who owns the London Evening Standard and The Independent newspapers will launch a new U.K. title next week to complement a new Independent format; however, there may be delays due to this mishap.

Maybe he will hire Okke Ornstein to be his Editor since Ornstein worked in the wonderful world of television in Europe according to his own representations. Ornstein has references from many award winning media journals; such as, Bananama Republic, Narcosphere, Ornstein.org but wait a minute does Ornstein not own also those trash Internet Blogs?
