WANTED SA has just learned this morning that the wife of a man who ran a multi-million drug ring from Auckland, New Zealand Sky City Casino has escaped a long term jail sentence on drugs and money laundering charges.

Ling Hui (Linda) Yeh, 32, was appearing for sentence in the High Court in New Zealand after being found guilty of conspiracy to supply methamphetamine and two charges of money laundering.

She was given 12 months' home detention.

Her husband Tac Kin Voong, 47, was earlier jailed for 18 years as the Ringleader of the Drug Ring which he had operated and administrated from the Casino.

Yeh's lawyer Barry Hart said home detention was not a soft option, but it would allow her to continue to care for her two children.

Earlier, Crown prosecutor Brett Tantrum said a starting point of five to six years in prison was appropriate but Mr. Hart said a discount of up to 50 percent could also be applied.

Judge Patrick Keane said a pre-sentence report had indicated that a prison term would have a disastrous affect on her sons, who are now aged 14 and 10.

He said Yeh was acting as "an intermediary" under instructions of her husband who she did not often see and who "has not been in any real sense" her husband.

He said she had been vulnerable to his will to "an unhealthy degree".

She did not oppose the forfeiture of $7970 in cash found in her handbag when she was arrested.

The judge also order the seizure of a Mercedes Benz car she and Voong had when they were arrested and in a separate hearing after the sentencing made another order seizing $11,000 in cash from Voong which was found in the safe of the hotel room he occupied at Sky City.
